Fast version: tap +, choose ebook files from Files, import them, then tap a cover to read. In the reader, tap the middle of the page to show or hide controls. Use the bottom-right menu for chapters, settings, and Recap so far.

LightReadr is built to be quiet: bring your own books, make the page comfortable, and get back to reading without a lot of app ceremony. It opens unlocked ebook files — the kind whose name ends in .epub, which is how most free ebooks come.

Getting started

  1. Open LightReadr.
  2. Tap + in your library.
  3. Choose one or more ebooks from Files.
  4. Review the import summary.
  5. Tap Import.
  6. Tap a book cover to start reading.

Reading controls

Settings

Settings are saved per book, so one book can have a larger font while another keeps its original look.

Chapters

Chapter navigation depends on information inside the ebook file. LightReadr looks for the book’s chapter list and can also fall back to readable book sections when possible.

If no chapters appear, the book may not include a usable chapter list. You can still read the book normally.

Recap so far

Recap so far needs a supported Apple Intelligence device running compatible system software. It uses the text you have reached in the book to make a short reminder of what has happened.

Sync and reinstalling

LightReadr can use iCloud to keep your place, settings, covers, chapters, and other book details in step. The ebook files themselves stay local to each device.

If you reinstall the app or open LightReadr on a new device, you may see a book before its ebook file exists on that device. Import the same ebook again and LightReadr can reconnect it with the saved details.

Frequently asked questions

Does LightReadr support PDF?

Not yet. LightReadr is focused on ebooks first.

Does LightReadr support locked bookstore files?

No. LightReadr is for unlocked ebooks you can open and read yourself. Books locked to another app or store may not work.

Do my books get uploaded anywhere?

No. LightReadr does not upload your books to any server. Book files stay local to each device, and Natural Voice narration is generated entirely on-device too. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Why do I need to reimport after reinstalling?

iOS removes app-local files when an app is deleted. iCloud can bring back your book details and reading place, but the ebook file itself needs to be imported again on that device.
