Privacy Policy
Last updated September 11, 2026. Your books, book text, generated audio, and saved reading position stay out of LightReadr’s analytics service. Optional Product Insights are off by default and collect only the limited events described below.
Your choice
LightReadr works fully without Product Insights. The setting is off by default and LightReadr does not create an analytics installation identifier, queue an analytics event, or contact its analytics service unless you choose Share Product Insights. You can change your choice at any time in About → Analytics & Privacy.
What Product Insights collects
If you opt in, LightReadr sends:
- A random, app-specific installation identifier used to associate and delete raw events.
- App version and build, iOS version, and a broad device class such as phone or tablet.
- App opens, EPUB import outcomes, reader controls used, and Read Aloud milestones.
- Closed categories for voice, playback speed, duration, background playback, and reviewed failures.
Events also contain event, batch, and session identifiers and timestamps needed to deliver, deduplicate, aggregate, and delete them. LightReadr never includes book titles, authors, filenames, files, book text, generated audio, chapters, reading positions, highlights, notes, searches, or free-form error messages in Product Insights.
How Product Insights is used
LightReadr uses this information to understand feature use, diagnose bounded failure categories, and improve app reliability. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking you across apps or websites. LightReadr does not use IDFA or IDFV and does not sell or share Product Insights with data brokers or ad networks. Advertising attribution is not enabled in this release.
Processing, retention, and deletion
Product Insights are sent to LightReadr’s service at
analytics.lightreadr.com, hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare necessarily processes
network information such as an IP address to deliver and protect a request. LightReadr does not
add IP addresses or user-agent strings to its analytics database or custom application logs.
Raw installation and event records are retained for up to 90 days. A delivery queue may retain a pending message for up to 24 hours. Turning Product Insights off stops collection, clears queued events, and asks the service to delete raw records for that installation. A one-way deletion marker may remain for up to eight days to prevent an in-flight retry from restoring deleted data. The app discards the random installation identifier; reinstalling also creates a new, unrelated one. Anonymous aggregate counts cannot be tied back to an installation, cannot be individually subtracted, and may be retained to measure long-term product performance.
Your books and reading progress
Books you import, your reading position, bookmarks, and highlights are stored on your device and synced through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) — to your own private iCloud account, the same way Apple Notes or Reminders sync across your devices. LightReadr does not have access to this data; it is encrypted and stored under your Apple ID, governed by Apple's own iCloud privacy terms.
Voice narration
Natural Voice narration is generated entirely on your device using a text-to-speech model that runs locally. The text of your books and the audio LightReadr generates from it never leave your phone — there is no server call involved in producing narration.
Files you import
Ebook files you choose to import (via the Files app or share sheet) are copied into LightReadr's local storage on your device so the app can open them. LightReadr only accesses files you explicitly choose to import.
Children's privacy
LightReadr is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a parent or guardian believes a child enabled Product Insights, they can turn it off in About → Analytics & Privacy or contact LightReadr to request help.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as LightReadr changes. The date above identifies the latest version. Material changes to what the app collects will be disclosed before the changed collection begins.
